FLORENCE-The new wheelchair swing is officially swinging in Deibert Park.
Junior League of the Shoals, Florence Mayor Steve Holt and Florence Councilwoman Michelle Eubanks hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday morning, introducing the ADA-accessible swing, which was a gift from Junior League of the Shoals.
“Thank you to Junior League of the Shoals for choosing Deibert Park to do this,” Mayor Steve Holt said. “This is a unique investment for this park and this region. It’s a great idea and know that we appreciate it. We want to make sure everyone knows it is here and that it is utilized heavily.”
The swing is the first of its kind in a city park in the Shoals area. It will enable children in wheelchairs to swing along with others.

“This is a fulfillment of Lillian Deibert’s mission for this park and she would be so pleased,” said Councilwoman Eubanks.

League President Kai Murphy said League was proud to be able to make this donation to Deibert Park. “This helps us fulfill our mission to impact women and children in the Shoals area. We are so grateful to all those who support us throughout the year to make this possible. “
Junior League of the Shoals donated the swing as one of its community service projects this year. The League hosts three major fundraisers each year, Apple Annie Day, Sugar Plum Market and Huff & Pull on the Bluff, to support its community endeavors.
