 Bennie Ruth FlippoBennie Ruth Cross Flippo was born July 17, 1932 in Lauderdale County. She was a loving wifemother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family.  She loved to bake cookies and pies and make craft items, usually to give away to friends or family. She was a member of Killen Church of Christ.

Her parents were Bennie Lee Cross and Ellen Ross Cross. Her father died shortly before she was born and she was named Bennie Ruth after her daddy, Bennie. She was spoiled by her mother, sisters and brother, and loved it. She married Alton when she was sixteen and he continued to spoil her. As a little girl she was given the nickname “Monk” and this nickname stuck with her the rest of her life. She was called “Monk” by almost everybody, even her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62years, Alton Flippo; son, Ronald Flippo; infant twin grandsons, Jeremy and Justin Butler;  brother W. J. (Dub) Cross; sisters Elvie Harris, Reba Russell and Lucille Tidwell. 

 

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Butler and husband, Dennis; Cathy Brewer and husband, Alan; daughter-in-law, Tammy Flippo; five grandchildren, Cassie Chamblin and husband, Tony, Chad Butler and wife, Rachael, Anna Humphries and husband, Tobey, Blake Flippo and Reece Flippo; great-grandchildren Colin, Colton and Anna Claire Chamblin, Emma and Caroline Butler. She is also survived by many brothers-and-sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and other extended family, her church family at Killen Church of Christand many other friends.

 

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 Monday, May 13, 2019 and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 at Killen Church of Christ, with Brother Stan Dean officiating. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family. 

 

 Pallbearers will be Tony Chamblin, Colin Chamblin, Colton Chamblin, Chad Butler, Tobey Humphries and Reece Flippo.

 

The family would like to thank El Reposo Nursing Facility administration and staff for the excellent care and all the love shown to our mother and grandmother during her brief stay there.
