TUSCUMBIA-In celebration of Alabama’s Bicentennial, the Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation will present John Alexander Dersham, award-winning photographer and author of a new coffee table book,  My Alabama: John Dersham Photographs a State.  Dersham will be the featured speaker at the Foundation’s meeting on Sunday, May 19, at 2:00 in the annex room at  Helen Keller Library, 511 N. Main St., Tuscumbia.  The public is invited and light refreshments will be served.

Dersham is recognized across the state for his stunning images of landscapes, small town streetscapes, coastal shots, mountain streams, architectural gems and everything in between!  “My Alabama”, released in April,  features 200 images, many of which will be presented in power point as part of his program.  The author will be signing copies of the book, which will be available for purchase.

John Dersham is a familiar personage in North Alabama tourism circles. A resident of Fort Payne, he is President of DeKalb Tourism. My Alabama: John Dersham Photographs a State is the first published book devoted to his work, which has been featured in gallery and other exhibits, nationwide.  He is one of the most sought-after photography instructors and speakers on the subject of photography in the Southeast.  His love of the art and his expertise were developed in his 30 years spent working at the Kodak Company prior to beginning his career in Tourism.  His images are often used in promotional work by the Alabama Department of Tourism.

This program is made possible by Read 200, a special offering of Alabama 200, the State Bicentennial. For more information:  256-710-9081.
