James Willis HagoodJames Willis Hagood, age 80, of Rogersville, AL, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 after an 11 month battle with cancer.

James was born in Clements, AL on January 20, 1939, to Thomas Marion Hagood and Etta Cleo Cribbs Hagood. He moved to Rogersville after marrying and settled into a life of public service to his community. James served as Mayor of the Town of Rogersville from 1988-2000 and as Superintendent of Rogersville Water Works until his retirment in 2008. He loved the Town of Rogersville and drew happiness from its growth and success.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Avon Johnson Hagood of Rogersville; son, Stuart Hagood of Rogersville; daughter Nicole Hagood Darnell (Seth) of Arab; beloved grandaughter Willa Kate Darnell; sisters Charlotte Hagood and Earline Chambers; and a host of extended family and friends who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Estelene Williams, and brothers Eural Hagood and Thomas Hagood.

Services will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Rogersville Church of Christ with Alex Bayes and Charles Thompson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 – 1:00 with the funeral following at 1:00. Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ray Goodman, Jerry Kerr, Aaron Johnson, Tony Johnson, Roger Chambers, and George Mason. Honorary Pallbearer is Raymond Williams.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Alexia Miller, Wilma Lewter, Dr. Daniel Schreeder, and Dr. Rami Hawari for the care they showed our father during his final weeks.
