Friday’s fatal auto crash in Sheffield claims one more

SHEFFIELD – Ashley Hale, 26, of Muscle shoals was pronounced dead late last night at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. Last Friday, her daughter, 7-month old Mariah, and cousin Amanda Hyatt, 32, were killed in the crash at South Montgomery Avenue and South Jackson Highway. Witnesses say that Hale’s car was traveling at an extremely high speed, headed south, when it slammed into a mercury Mountaineer that turned into its path. the 2 teenage boys in the SUV were treated and released from Shoals Hospital.

The two women and infant were rushed to Helen Keller Hospital by ambulance, as the weather precluded a medevac helicopter flight to Huntsville Hospital’s trauma center. The 3 were transported to UAB later that night or early Saturday morning.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
