Notice of Funding Availability
The City of Florence anticipates receiving funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to implement activities principally benefitting low and moderate income persons and neighborhoods. Estimated total funding available for the competitive Public Service Grant Program is $50,000.00 for the period of May 1, 2019, to April 30, 2020.

All funding granted under this program is reserved for servicing residents within the city limits of Florence, Alabama, exclusively. All services provided must meet at least one of three national objectives defined by HUD:

  1. Benefit to low and/or moderate income persons
    2. Aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight
    3. Meet a need having a particular urgency

The application period opens Monday, April 22, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. and closes Friday, May 24, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. The City of Florence is respectful of the time and resources required to submit applications which meet program criteria. Therefore, late applications are not accepted.

Food Bank Distribution Tuesday, April 23, at Magnolia Gardens II from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.

Photo from the food distribution on March 6, 2019. The amazing “helping hands” of Mrs. Underwood’s Fourth Grade at St. Joseph Regional Catholic School who braved very cold temperatures (without complaint!) to distribute food items from our CDBG partner, Food Bank of North Alabama.

Broadway Community Playground Ribbon Cutting Wednesday, April 24, at 9:00 a.m.

We love bringing projects, big and small, to life for our great neighborhoods!

Community Development Blight Program

The Community Development Department works with property owners to demolish vacant, abandoned properties primarily located in both East and West Florence. In 2018, eighteen blighted properties were demolished. We expect to have 18-20 additional properties during 2019.

Community Development Residential Rehab Program

Residential Rehab program offers property owner’s assistance to provide energy efficient home updates including a new roof, windows, HVAC, exterior doors, or a water heater.  Residents must meet HUD guidelines for low income status per HUD guidelines. These services are often coordinated with other agencies to meet the client’s needs.
