FLORENCE-Weeden Elementary teacher, Mrs. Julianna Mann partnered her “Geek Glam” students with Florence High School science teacher, Ms. Whitney Evans and her “Girls in STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics). Julianna Mann created stations for the students to work in collaboratively. There was also a third partnership, as at least one of the stations was a glam station facilitated by UNA Phi Mu students (…which also included reptiles).
Whitney Evens had her “Girls in STEM” science students provid robotics stations, in which the FHS students taught the Weeden Elementary students how to program and how to maneuver the Dash-and Dot robots. What better way to end this fun-filled day than with robot-relay-races!
These students volunteered a little of their time on a Saturday to help others in their community. One of the Florence High School “Girls in STEM” students commented, “I think I want to be an elementary teacher…”
