Sallie Owens Massey  – Obituary

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Sallie Owens Massey formerly of Hillsboro, AL.will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at Canaan M.B. Church in Hillsboro, AL with Pastor Ronald Merriweather officiating and Interment in Owens Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral.

Sallie O. Massey, 90 years old, left this earthly realm to be with the Lord on April 12, 2019 in Dayton, OH . Sallie was born to John Bobby Owens and Ora Cranfield Owens on January 17, 1929 in Lawrence County, Courtland, Alabama.  She was one of twelve children.

She confessed her hope in Christ at age 10 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama.

Sallie moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1950 and continued her work for Christ at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and did missionary work.

She was employed as an EKG Technician for many years at St. Elizabeth Hospital.  After many years in Dayton, Sallie moved back to Hillsboro and rejoined First Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she joined the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. In 2011, Sallie moved back to Dayton to be with her daughter and sons.

She did work in many areas of the church: choir, church clerk, missionary, Sunday School teacher and the Mother’s Board throughout her Christian journey.

Sallie was a member of Corinda, Order of the Eastern Star #99.

She retired from the Morgan County Commission on Aging. She loved helping people.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband and father of her children, Earnest Miller; her second husband, Andrew Massey; two sons, Earnest E. and Clarence P. Miller; four brothers, Levoulia Hobbs, Joseph Owens, Thomas H. Owens and James W. Jones; two sisters, Johnnie Mae Hill and Madgie L. Watkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Ora Miliner with whom she lived; two sons, Gregory A. (Linda) Miller and Timothy P. Miller, both of Hillsboro, AL; sister, Lillie M. Robinson of Decatur; four brothers, The Rev. John B. (Hazel) Owens, Oscar L. (Betty) Owens, Oakland, CA, The Rev. Leo (Betty) Owens, Hillsboro, AL and The Rev. Dr. Willie N. (Lucille) Owens, Huntsville, AL; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Owens Jr., Dwight Owens, Timothy Miller, Jr., Darryl Owens and Timothy Owens.

Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Psalms 105:4
