Clara Jane Benefield  – Obituary

Clara Jane Benefield  74, of Somerville passed away Friday April 19, 2019 at her residence.  She was born in Opelika, Alabama March 22, 1945 to John Robert Everett and Mildred Abernathy Everett. She grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, and graduated from Novato High School in Santa Rosa, California. After graduating whe worked for Belk Hudson’s in downtown Huntsville and later for L. C. Clendennon C.P.A. She worked for Florette Income Tax Service, where she retired after 22 years.  Aside from work, she was also a devoted Christian and loving mother.  Her work was tireless until the needs of her church and family were met.  There was nothing that she wouldn’t do to make sure the needs of her family were met.  She was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church.  She taught Sunday School and was church secretary from 2003 until 2015.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Brenda Eloise Norman and Alice Faye Everett; one son, Steven Allen Bland.  She is survived by her husband of 42 years Verlie Benefield; one son Kenneth Lee Benefield (Keyla) of Somerville and one daughter Sandra Ann Glass of Arab, Alabama; Grandchildren, Nathaniel Keith Glass (Kayla), Cheyenne Vanetta Benefield and Cotton Jackson Benefield and one great granddaughter, Annsleigh Glass. Visitation will be Saturday April 20, 2019 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home.   Funeral service will be Sunday at 3:00pm at Blue Springs Baptist Church with Brother Richard Richey officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery in Florette.  Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
