Joan Bechtel, 72, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Joan was born in Clanton, AL and graduated from Oxford High School in 1964. She was a 1968 graduate of Jacksonville State University with a degree in Education. She taught in the Huntsville City School System for 25 years.
Joan was a woman of many interests and talents, some of which included playing tennis, cake decorating, and any new technology she could get her hands on. Joan loved spending time with her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David Bechtel of Dallas, GA. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Tom Bechtel; her children, Jeff Bechtel of Huntsville, AL and Christy Bechtel of Huntsville, AL; daughter-in-law, Sheri Bechtel of Dallas, GA; five grandchildren; her sister, Carol Kelley (Gordon) of Oxford; and her brother, John Gilmore (Terry) of Anniston, AL.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Friday, April 19th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
