NW-SCC President, Dr. Glenda Colagross awards Fabien Valles with the 2019 President’s Award for the Shoals campus

MUSCLE SHOALS – Fabien Valles, of Rogersville, Ala., received Northwest-Shoals Community College’s (NW-SCC) most prestigious honor last night at the annual Shoals Campus Honors and Awards Night. He was awarded the President’s Award for the Shoals campus.

Valles will graduate this year from NW-SCC and has been awarded a transfer scholarship to attend the University of Alabama. He plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.
Valles has been actively involved at NW-SCC as the current President of the Alpha Zeta Iota chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (International Two-Year College Honor Society). As President, he presented Phi Theta Kappa projects to the Alabama Education Policy Committee in Montgomery, Ala.
Valles also served with the Alabama Possible Cash for College program. The Cash for College program encourages high school students to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). He was then selected to serve on a student committee with Alabama Possible in Washington, D.C., to discuss how Congress can improve postsecondary access and completion and create equal opportunities for all students, including low-income and first-generation college-going students.
He has been consistently named to the President’s and Dean’s List for his academic achievements and has recently been named to represent the College as a member of the 2019 All Alabama Academic Team.
The President’s Award is the most prestigious honor awarded by NW-SCC. The faculty submits nominations to the Award Committee for the final selection. The recipient must have earned a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. Also, the recipient must have demonstrated leadership and actively participated in community service while attending NW-SCC.
