NW-SCC hosts 180 students for high school mathematics competition

MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest-Shoals Community College’s (NW-SCC) Mathematics Department hosted the third annual high school mathematics competition on the Shoals campus for approximately 180 area high school students Friday, April 12th.
Area high school students competed in five areas: Algebra II with Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, team, and overall winners. Competition winners are listed below:
Geometry
First Place: A.J. Shipp – Arab High School
Second Place: Caleb Culbert – Arab High School
Third Place: Luke Sanders – Arab High School
Algebra II with Trigonometry
First Place: Zevin Tays – Lexington High School
Second Place: Neeley Lovvorn – Lauderdale County High School
Third Place: Hannah Harvey – Arab High School
Pre-Calculus
First Place: Thomas Roden – Colbert Heights High School
Second Place: Madison Cagle – Lexington High School
Third Place: Braden Spencer – Lauderdale County High School
Team Competition
First Place: Arab High School Team (1)
Second Place: Arab High School Team (2)
Third Place: Lexington High School Team (2)
Overall Winners
Geometry – Arab High School
Algebra II with Trigonometry – Lexington High School
Pre-Calculus – Lauderdale County High School
Competing high schools included: Arab, Brooks, Central, Colbert County, Colbert Heights, Lauderdale County, and Lexington High School.
