Dorothy Lackey McVay – Obituary

 Dorothy Lackey McVay, 95, of Cherokee, AL, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at her residence. Mrs. McVay was a lifelong resident of the Allsboro community. She was a member of Allsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and was always trying new recipes, especially for cakes. When she heard of a sickness or death in the community she would get the cake pans out and start baking. She also enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. She loved watching her flowers grow. Dorothy’s family are who they are because of her. She set an example and encouraged and helped them in every phase of life. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Davenport of Cherokee, AL, and Noreen Parker (Joe) of Iuka; three grandchildren, Heather Keeton (Neal) of Cherokee, AL, Donny Parker (Julie) of Brandon, and Johnny Parker (Kim) of Booneville; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Raymond Wallace of Cherokee, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. E. “Griff” McVay; a daughter, Elsie Wallace; a son-in-law, Tom Davenport; and a grandson, Casey Parker. The family would like to give special thanks to Kindred Hospice and caregivers Rachel Gray and Linda Harris for their love and care. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, at Allsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, officiated by Bro. Buddy Dover and Chaplain Fred Karthaus. Interment will follow in Allsboro Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers include Sonny Dover, Larry Parker, Nelson Wallace, Clay Lackey, Dexter Waldrep, Malcolm Waldrep, and Lyn Waldrep. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday.
