Former Madsion County High School Teacher Jailed On Charges Of Sex With A Student

MADISON COUNTY-On Friday, April 12 Lyndsey Sherrod Bates, 22, turned herself in to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Bates has been charged with one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student, one count of a school employee having sexual contact with a student, and three counts of a school employee distributing obscene material to a student.

Bates was employed as a resource and inclusion teacher at Madison County High School. She also coached junior varsity and varsity volleyball. According to school records she was started work at the Madison County School system in June of 2018. According to Madison County School officials Bates is no longer employed with the school system.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged that Bates is related by marriage to Chief Deputy Stacy Bates and stated: “That fact in no way has affected the investigative process or urgency leading to today’s arrest, nor to the future criminal justice proceedings.”

Sheriff Kevin Turner also stated that “the Sheriff’s Office started an investigation as soon as the allegations were brought to our attention, and Chief Bates was never involved in that investigation.”

Bates bail has been set at $32,000.
