Billy T. Collum – Obituary

 Dr. Billy T. Collum, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in Memphis, TN. He was born December 23, 1929 to the late Dr. William Thomas Collum and the late Virginia Belle Funderburk Collum. He was last of the 13 children raised up in the Fairview Community. He attended Fulton United Methodist Church. Dr. Collum graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1954 and practiced medicine for 57 years in Itawamba County. Dr. Collum said, “Two of the best decisions of my life were going to Medical School and marrying Barbara Jean Starcevic from Lincoln, IL whom I met during internship and who gave me 10 beautiful babies and who has also served in a nursing capacity, mother, employee, financial advisor, and counselor in many capacities and an overall great catch.”

Services will be 11:00 am on Friday April 12, 2019 at Fulton United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Box and Bro. Terry Paul Graham officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday, April 11, at Senter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Benefield Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home has been entrusted with assisting the family.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara Collum of Fulton; daughters: Billye Jean (John) Stroud of New Albany, Cynthia Finney of Madison, AL, Charlotte Collum of Nashville, TN, Debra Collum of Rossville, TN, and Barbara Jo Collum of Nashville, TN; sons: Mark (Stephanie) Collum of Tupelo, James (Malinda) Collum of Madison, AL. 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who affectionately called him “Doc”.

Preceded in death by his parents, sons: John Collum, Lesley Wayne Collum, and Phillip Charles Collum; also preceded in death by 12 siblings.
