THE SHOALS-Rickey Butch Walker showcases the important role that cotton played in history along the Tennessee River Valley. Along with cotton stories, Walker released his first volume of the Alabama Plantation Series, co-authored with former Florence Historian William McDonald. Walker soon discovered that each county should have the records easily available in one researched document for other counties.
Walker has listed research available from census records for each county. The records reflect the number of slaves listed with each plantation owners as reported in census records. Although a sad part of history, the research Walker has compiled will cut hours of work off family and genealogy research work.
Walker released his latest book, Cotton Was King, Colbert – Franklin Counties with a presentation followed by a book-signing at beautiful Belle Mont Mansion featured on the book cover.
Walker will be at several locations in North Alabama answering questions and signing books over the next several months.
