ATHENS-Benches in Athens depicting different periods of history and iconic local images welcome walkers and event
goers to take a rest.
Boy Scout Aidan Harm oversaw the Eagle Scout project for the City of Athens bicentennial and worked with
local artists to provide painted benches at places like Farmers Market, Athens-Limestone County Tourism and High Cotton Arts.

This is but one example of how Scouts contribute to enhance their communities.  On Wednesday, April 3, at Calhoun Community College, an SEC football official, Russ Pulley, will be the keynote speaker for a fundraiser breakfast for Scouting. Pulley, who is also a retired FBI investigator, will speak
at the Athens Limestone Decatur Community Breakfast hosted by Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly and Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling.

This is the first year Athens and Limestone County have collaborated with Decatur on the breakfast.  Proceeds will benefit the Arrowhead District of the Boy Scouts. The breakfast is from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and will include honoring those from the two communities with Heart of an Eagle Awards.

The Athens and Limestone honoree will be Eli’s Block Party Childhood Cancer Foundation for its efforts to support local families who have a child battling cancer. The group also financially supports innovative childhood
cancer research.

The Decatur honoree will be Tim Smalley, a longtime supporter of Scouting. Smalley became an Eagle Scout in 1973, has served as an assistant Scoutmaster, as chairperson of the Arrowhead District Committee, and in
various offices with the Grater Alabama Council.
