Percy J. Davidson – Obituary

Percy J. Davidson, 77, of Florence, passed from this life March 20, 2019. He was born June 12, 1941 in Lauderdale County and was a graduate of Central High School in Camden, TN. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for four years. His active duty was extended an additional nine months during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from TVA after 33 ½ years and was a member of the Boilermaker Local 455.

Saved at an early age, Percy served the church in many capacities including deacon. Currently, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Florence. Devoted to his community, Percy served as a Trustee of Central High School for 12 years and was Band Booster President. Percy loved supporting his Crimson Tide and Central Wildcats. He was also a member of Florence Lodge #14.

Percy never met a stranger and was well known for his famous hugs. He paid meticulous attention to detail in everything he did, especially yardwork.

Percy was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Dee Davidson, to whom he lovingly donated a kidney; parents, Rev. William J. (Bill) and Corine Thornton Davidson; brothers, Donnie and Stephen Davidson; and brother-in-law, Jay Nunnery. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Peggy Austin Davidson; daughter, Dana Crawford (Paul); granddaughters, Caitlyn and Cayla Dee Crawford; brother, Troy Davidson (Carol); sister, Wanda Davidson Nunnery; in-laws, Harry Austin (Mae) and Sue Austin Heupel (Don); and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home; funeral Monday, March 25 at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Rev. Jim Warren and Rev. Kevin Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bryan Austin, Matthew Claerbout, Jimmy Long, Sam Plank, Ricky Thornton, and Randall Whitten. Honorary pallbearers include Ralph Cunningham, Butch Gray, Rev. Barrett Long, Sammy Marks, Jerry Martin, Harold McAfee, Tommy Simmons, Jackie Thompson, and the Joshua Sunday School Class of First Baptist Florence.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Mitchell Hollingsworth Station 5, Denise James, and John McDaniel.
