Bobby Glen “Paw” Massey – Obituary

Bro. Bobby Glen “Paw” Massey, 76, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the North AL Medical Center.  He was born in Franklin County, AL to Marshall and Geneva Humphries Massey.  He began his ministry at Providence Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church.  He founded and pastored at Friendship Baptist Church.  He then became the pastor at Forrest Grove Baptist Church and was the current pastor at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Kevin Merritt and Randy Sparks officiating.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay, AL.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by four children-Myra Coats (Ricky) of Vina, Sheila Smith (David) of Dennis, Angie Gilliland (Dallas) of Red Bay and Tony Massey (Angie) of Golden; Eighteen grandchildren-Beth James (Matt), Josh Phifer (Kim), Matt Phifer (Sami), Duston Mills (Heather), Ashley Mills, Will Weeks, Haven Massey, , Logan Massey (Melissa), Zak Coats (Katrina), Chase Coats (April), Josh Coats (Britni), Sonya Burns (Brian), Dee Smith, Stephanie Smith, Wendy Stanley (Josh), Breeze Gilliland, Autumn Higginbottom and Hunter Higginbottom; 29 great-grandchildren-Lexi, Brady, Mattie Brooke, Jace, Maddox, Marlie, Xander, Weston, Tatum, Lydia, Kurtis, Jesse, Jolie, Ava, Paisley, Lilli, Caleb, Autumn, Asher, Reed, Libbi, Lizzi, Beau, Cole, Colton, Parker, Anna, Grethen and Bryant; two sisters-Linda James and Kathy Coats (Harold); sister-in-law-Mayola Massey; seven nieces; three nephews and a host of other friends who called him “Paw.”

He was preceded in death by his loving wife-Doris Massey; two grandchildren-Cory and Brooke Mills; his brother-Jimmy Massey; sister-Nella Jean Massey; his parents and his brother-in-law-Robert James.

Pallbearers will be Tony Massey, Logan Massey, Josh Phifer, Duston Mills, Matt Phifer, Brady Collum, Mark Massey, Greg Strickland and Jarod Massey.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Benson, Jeff Holland, Freddie Watson and Bobby Raines.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 19, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL.
