 Mr. Charles Morris HornsbyMr. Charles Morris Hornsby passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the Hospice Family Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He was born in Ashland, Alabama in Clay County on March 6, 1942, the son of Morris Blakely Hornsby and Inez Yarbrough Hornsby. Charles attended elementary schools in both Lineville and Ashland and was graduated from Clay County High School in the Class of 1960. Charles continued a family tradition of serving as a varsity football team manager for four years. Following graduation from high school, he volunteered for military service in the Alabama Army National Guard from 1959 until 1962. He was trained as a communications specialist where he received an honorable medical discharge from the service. Following his military service, he was hired by the Boeing Company at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama where he was trained and worked as a Fortran Computer Programmer. He would work in the computer/information
technology career field for the next 45 years. He retired from the COLSA Corporation as an Information Technology Manager in 2014. Charles lived in Arab, Alabama for 55 years. He enjoyed fishing in nearby Guntersville Lake and loved General Aviation flying. He was an FAA licensed single engine pilot and flew safely for many years. Charles attended the Eddy Baptist Church in Arab, Alabama. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM in the Clay County Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland, Alabama on Saturday the March 30, 2019 and final interment will be next door in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the American Heart Association.
