Tremon Edwin WatsonTremon Edwin Watson, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 14, 2019. Tremon was born June 4, 1937, to Tremon C. Watson and Ruby Cummings Watson in Mantachie, MS.

Tremon was a graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1956. He later continued his education at Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi State University where he earned his BS degree in 1960. Tremon was also a member of the US Army and the Mississippi National Guard.

Tremon got married to the love of his life Janice Surratt Watson on April 14, 1960. They enjoyed almost 59 years of being a loving caring couple. Tremon and Janice lived for a short time in Jackson, MS, where he worked for the Mississippi State Highway Department. They returned back home to Itawamba county where Tremon was employed by Cook Coggin Engineers of Tupelo and then Marietta and Mantachie Manufacturing Company where he retired  after thirty years. Tremon then returned to Cook Coggin Engineers in Tupelo where he has been employed for over the last twenty years.

Tremon was an active member of the Mantachie Lion’s Club since 1967. He was a member for over 50 years and served as President, 1st and 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director of the Mantachie Club. Tremon served as Governor Elect and Governor of District 30A of Mississippi in 1974-1975. He was a Lion’s Club Zone Chairman several times and received the 100% District Governors award. He helped organize three new Lion’s Clubs, received a Mississippi Extension Award, and received the International Lion’s Club Presidents Award in 1990-1991. He served as a State President of Mississippi Lion’s Sight Services and President of Mid-South Lion’s Sight Services. He also served as a Mid South Lion’s Committee member for two years, went to many State Lion Club Conventions and two International Conventions.

Tremon and his wife Janice enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises. He liked to spend some of his free time watching Mississippi State Athletics.

Tremon will be remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Janice Surratt Watson; daughter, Stephanie Jan Watson; son, John Edwin Watson; grandchildren, Haley Marie Wilson and Karci Alexandria Watson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Tremon C. Watson and Ruby C. Watson; sister, Sue Watson Riley; brother-in-law, Herman Riley; and grandson, Cody Stevens Wilson.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Murphy, David Parker, Melissa Plunkett, Jimmy Spencer, Kyle Strong, and Don Tyra.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Mantachie United Methodist Church Adult Sunday School Class.

Services will be at 2 PM Saturday, March 16, at the Mantachie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Coggins and the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the Mantachie Cemetery.  McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is entrusted with arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, March 15, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mantachie United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Mantachie United Methodist Church Building Fund.
