Willam Ishmael PerryWilliam Ishmael Perry, 93, of Rogersville, Alabama passed away peacefully March 12, 2019 at his home. Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his parents William Porter Perry and Inez Belue Perry, his wife Grace Goode Perry, daughter Debbie Perry Newton, brother Edsel Perry, and nephew Mark Perry.
Mr. Perry is survived by his daughter Jennifer Perry Mathieu and son-in-law John Mathieu; grandsons Casey Newton (Julie), Cole Newton (Kristen), John Mathieu Jr. (Allison), and Taylor Mathieu; greatgrandchildren Perry Newton and Grace Anne Newton; nieces Angie Perry Smith and Jill Perry; great nephew Cole Smith; son-in-law Stan Newton (Allison) and their daughter , Catherine Newton Pasuer (David); and his great friend and sister-in-law (and dance partner) Doris Goode Butler.
Mr. Perry worked for several years in construction in various locations in the southeast. He worked for 30+ years as a Pipefitter for Reynolds Metals Company, from which he retired in 1990. One of his favorite things to do was to trade goods, mainly anything with 4 wheels. Ishmael bought and sold used cars (and tractors, golf carts, 4 wheelers, etc.) for most of his adult life and eventually used his skills as an expert welder to build utility trailers. Demand for his trailers surpassed his supply and he started a trailer dealership to keep up with the demand. After his retirement from Reynolds, he built his trailer dealership to one of the biggest in the area at the time. He was more interested in selling quality products and making deals with folks than actually putting money in his pocket. He was happy to tell you that he had the best deals around on a utility trailer. People came from all over the country to make trailer deals with him. Many of these folks continued to stop by and spend time telling stories with him over the years.
Mr. Perry was a lifelong member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Rogersville, AL. He held many positions in the church and helped with many projects the church was involved with. He enjoyed his Sunday school class and was very close to each member.
Mr. Perry served as a Mason for over 65 years, serving in the Rogersville, AL Masonic Lodge.
Ishmael was always willing to help those in need. He would give anyone in need the shirt off his back without expecting anything in return. Many have witnessed this first-hand, but he never looked for recognition. Quite simply he was a great man that all who knew him looked up to. He was the greatest Grandfather, Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, etc. that anyone could hope to have. As someone said, they don’t make ‘em like that anymore! He was a man that valued his relationship with the Lord and his family more than anything else. Thank God for Ishmael Perry.
His family would like to thank all of the people who helped him in his time of need and for those that visited him during this time.
Pallbearers will be Casey Newton, Cole Newton, Taylor Mathieu, John Mathieu Jr., and Cole Smith.
