Janette Stephens Cates – Obituary

Janette Stephens Cates, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. She was born July 17, 1933, to Hubert Byron and Faye Rodgers Stephens. She was a member of Lakeland Baptist Church. Her passion was helping others through her career in nursing. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and working crossword and sudoku puzzles; but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Mattie Pettigo and Joshua Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Franks of Mantachie and Carolyn Davis (Barry) of Kirkville; her grandchildren, Laura Martin (Blake) of Booneville, Matthew Pettigo (Angie) of Mantachie, Joshua Davis (Sarah) of Dorsey, Alex Davis (Danielle) of Dorsey, and Beth Davis Loague (Dave) of Dorsey; and her great-grandchildren, Desirae Ivy of Saltillo, Stephen and Phillip Henson of Booneville, Mattie Pettigo of Saltilo, Alexis and Kaden Pettigo of Mantachie, Bo River Davis of Dorsey, Kaleb and Kullen Davis of Dorsey, and Holt and Magnolia Davis of Dorsey.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Hoyte Eugene Cates; a grandson, Austin Davis; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Pettigo, Steven Henson, Phillip Henson, Blake Matin, Alex Davis, and Dave Loague.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
