Paul Douglas Hasting – Obituary

Paul Douglas Hasting, 81, of Athens, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
Mr. Hasting was born August 24, 1937, in Limestone County. Paul graduated from Elkmont High School and went on to begin his employment as a Lineman for Athens Utilities. He retired as the Comptroller.
After his retirement from Athens Utilities, he worked at MEWS while being caregiver for his mother in her later years. In the years to come, he was a loving and devoted husband to his wife in her final years with dementia.
He loved the simple things in life: trips to the Smokies, fishing, watching Westerns, listening to Bluegrass music, telling stories to his grandchildren and watching the hummingbirds while sitting on his back porch, reminiscing about the good ol’ days.
He was also a faithful member of Market Street Church of Christ. He was a loving father, grandfather and patriarch of the family and will be truly missed.
There will be a graveside service 3 p.m. Wednesday at Legg Cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Easter, Joel Easter, Justin Pratt, Tyler Varnagatas, Grayson Hasting, Cody Little and Stevie Romero.
Survivors include daughters, Sherry Hasting, Jenny Easter and husband Randy and Cindy Griswold and husband Tim; son, Douglas Hasting; grandchildren, Christopher Easter, Joel Easter, Sarah Little, Laura Romero, Justin Pratt, Tyler Varnagatas, Anna Jones, Brandon Griswold and Grayson Hasting; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne Hasting and wife Bobbie.
Preceded in death by parents, Carl E. and Bernice Hasting; and loving wife, Betty Jean Ball Hasting.
