Irue Plunkett lived a life with an open door policy, creating a hospitable space in her heart and home for all she encountered. She was a woman of great strength and dignity, never letting someone leave her presence without being loved and well fed. She believed in Jesus and talked about Him like He lived next door, wanting everyone to know that neighbor. Irue loved gardening, quilting, was an avid fan of Gaither music, and was a life time member of the Amanda King Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her story telling was unmatched as she cared and guarded the memories of those who went before her. Her home was always unlocked and her arms were always open to welcome any stranger for a glass of sweet tea.
She graduated from J.B. Pennington High School in 1949 and married the love her of life a few short years later. Her husband always said the two of them were a “matched pair”. Together they raised four children and made a home in the New Harmony Community. Their four children rise up and call her blessed.
Funeral services will be held at New Harmony Baptist Church on Tuesday March 12, 2019. The visitation begins at 1 P.M and the service will begin at 2 P.M.
