Joan von Hofsten Pease Sullivan – Obituary

Joan von Hofsten Pease Sullivan, born on March 28, 1934 in Chesterfield County, VA, died on March 10, 2019 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL. Joan graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Physics in 1955 and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. She later received a Master’s Degree in Developmental Learning and taught at East Clinton, Montview, Whitesburg and Jones Valley Elementary schools. She was an active member at Faith Presbyterian and served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Moderator of Presbyterian Women, and sang in the choir. She was a loving mother and mother-in-law, a wonderful and creative grandma, and all will miss her quick wit and quiet wisdom.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jerry Sullivan, and is survived by daughter, Julie (Neil) Allen of Lake Wales, FL, sons, Jay (Karen) Sullivan and John (Debbie) Sullivan of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Neil Allen of Lake Wales, FL, Megan (Josh) Sullivan of Atlanta, GA, Julia (Andy) Glover of Huntsville, AL, Callie Sullivan of Birmingham, AL, and Rachel Sullivan of Huntsville, AL; and great-grandson, Johnathan Thomas Glover.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Lovell officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
