After recent complications with Flu, pneumonia, and stroke, Ms. Cleo Harding formally of 1433 O’Brig Ave., passed away Thursday March 7, 2019 at home with family and loved ones by her side. She was 96. Services will be held at Carr Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday March 10, 2019 5-8pm. Graveside Service will be Monday March 11, 2019 10am at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Carr Funeral Home Assisting the family.
She lived in Arab, Lacey Springs, and Guntersville most of her life. For several years her late husband, Rev. James A. Harding known as “F” Harding, and her owned and operated a small grocery store in Lacey Springs. She continued to run the store several years before closing it and returning to Guntersville. After returning to Guntersville, Cleo, being the youngest of her family, became the care provider for several members of her family. Cloe also enjoyed listening to gospel music, gardening, canning, tending her flowers, quilting, making clothes and helping others. Before she became home bound due to failing health, she attended regularly the Holiness Church of God in Claysville. She gave God the glory and praise for her long and healthy life, but was ready to go home to be with the Lord and all her family. Cleo was the youngest and last surviving of nine children born to her parents Cam and Addie Ward King. Cleo was often heard to say “ When her two brothers left home, it left the girls to help papa and momma to plant the crops, ploy the mules, milk the cows, use cross cut saw to cut wood for the cook stove and fireplace, and to can and put back food for the winter”. She said “it was hard growing up during the depression, but they had love and were devoted to family.
Cleo is survived by her niece; Opal Ramsey of Leeds, Nephew Vernon (Suzanne) King of Remlap nephew Chris (Misty) Bryan of Guntersville, and several other great nieces and nephews. Cleo was the last of her generation in the King family, and her love and devotion to family will be greatly missed.
