F.3.8.19 Rufus Thompson.jpgRufus Earl Thompson was born May 31, 1949 to Lonnie and Christine Thompson in Cherokee, Alabama. He departed this life, March 2, 2019, at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, Alabama with family members by his side.

He confessed faith in Christ at an early age and joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Cherokee, Alabama.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a wife, Bonnie Thompson; three daughters, Niquita Thompson (Kenneth), Sheffield, Natashia Thompson, Muscle Shoals, and Quala Thompson, Florence; one son, Donyell Thompson, Sr., (Latoya), Sheffield; mother, Christine Thompson, Cherokee; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Thompson, Cherokee; two brothers, James Thompson (Mellitie), Sheffield and Freddie Thompson (Darlene), Cherokee; three uncles, Rev. Estes Thompson (Shirley), Cherokee, Chasie Thompson (Allean), Huntsville, and Earl Lee Douglas (Jeraline), Barton; one aunt, Lula Curtis, Lima, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation with the family will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Funeral will be noon Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Cherokee, with Reverend Ronald Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Newsome Cemetery, Cherokee. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. The public viewing will be today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
