Dorothy "Dot" Tarpley Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” W. Tarpley, 82, passed away at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Pulaski on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019. Born on July 20th, 1936 in Ardmore, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Robert Winford Whitt and LaVonia Mason Whitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Mason Whitt, and her sister, Mary Whitt Fowler. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Tom Tarpley.
Mrs. Tarpley attended Giles County High School and married William Thomas Tarpley on July 15th, 1953 in Iuka, Mississippi. She thereafter accompanied him to San Diego, California, where he served in the United States Navy. After Mr. and Mrs. Tarpley returned to Tennessee, she was a longtime member of Miracle Baptist Church in LaVergne.
Her superior class and refinement were a hallmark of her character evident to all who knew and loved her and remained constant throughout her life despite the many medical challenges she faced. She taught the children in her life such things as how to swim and whistle and planted the seeds of lifelong interests such as martial arts. Her family cherishes her boiled custard recipe and it stands as one of the many examples of her care for them. “Mama Too” was loved and cherished deeply by the people she loved.
Other survivors include her children, Kent (Linda) Tarpley of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Denise (Don) Tarpley-Ezell of Aurora, Colorado, grandchildren, Caleb (Lou) Paschall of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Nathan Paschall of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She is also survived by her devoted nieces and nephews and other grandchildren..

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Her family requests that any memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
