William Spruell “Bill” Bowen – Obituary

William Spruell “Bill” Bowen, age 80, of Huntsville, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Crestwood Medical Center.

Bill grew up in Russellville where he was an Eagle Scout, scout leader, and OA lodge chief. He played football at Russellville at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and graduated from Florence State University. Bill sang gospel music for over 50 years with the Regents Quartet. He retired from IBM, where he worked in the Apollo space program and as a sales executive. His greatest love was his wife and family.

The visitation will be 10 a.m.- noon on Friday, March 08, 2019 at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville with a memorial service following at noon in the chapel.

He was preceded in death by wife of 55 years, Peggy Jean Hargett Bowen; his parents, William E. (Bill) and Josephine (Blackburn) Bowen; and brother, Bobby Bowen.

He leaves his son, Mark Bowen (wife, Michelle); daughter, Meleah Bowen Hopper; grandchildren, Brittany Bowen, Haley Bowen, Isabell Bowen, and Fox Bowen (currently serving a two-year mission in Mexico); along with beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a memorial to the general missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Check to: General Mission Fund, Corporation of the President, 50 E. North Temple, Rm 1521, Salt Lake City, Utah 84150).
