Norman Lee Thomas – Obituary

Mr. Norman Lee Thomas, age 77, of Spencer passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Norman was born May 8, 1941 in Pikeville, TN to James Edwin Thomas and Ethel (Hardy) Thomas who preceded him in death.  He served in the Army, and after his service he worked at Fall Creek Falls for over 30 years.  He was a member of the Welchland Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn (Van Winkle) Thomas; daughters, Kathy Jackson, Patsy Baker, Gwen Thomas, and Donna McGilbry; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Peggy Thomas and Billie Thomas; many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Bud Thomas, Jim Thomas, Junior Thomas, and Bill Thomas; sisters, Pauline Brinkman and Elizabeth Ann Turner.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Layne Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Brother Albert Roberts officiating.  There will be a period of visitation with the family prior to the service starting at 12:00 Noon.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Kerry Thomas and all those at Amedisys Hospice for their care of Papa during his sickness.
