Avis Elaine Brackeen, 97, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Tishomingo Manor in Iuka, MS. She was born January 20, 1915 in Mingo to James Ernest and Anna Mae Abbott Quillen. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was retired from Blue Bell. She was a resident of Tishomingo Manor in Iuka for the last 8 years. She was a former member of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Ralph Culp officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS. will be in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are four children-Luther “L.W.” Brackeen (Joann) of Fulton, Ernest Brackeen (Judy) of Memphis, Vicky Thatcher (Sam) of Riverview, FL and Ann Parrish (Thomas) of Dennis; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband-Luther Brackeen; her parents-Rev. Ernest and Mae Quillen; a grandson-Jamie Brackeen; a brother-James Quillen and a sister-Ida Bell Vandevander.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 30, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS.
