Jaime Benito Fernandez Jaime Benito Fernandez, age 77, of Huntsville, AL passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at his residence with his family around him. Mr. Fernandez was born in Puerto Padre, Cuba to Robustiano and Reineria Fernandez. He was an engineer for NASA and worked on the Pershing Missile, Lunar Module, Skylab, the Shuttle Program and at Mission Command. Mr. Fernandez had also worked for Bendix, Allied Signal and Honeywell. He was a member of the Spanish Club of Huntsville, Optimist Club of Huntsville and was one of the founding members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Mr. Fernandez was preceded in death by his parents Robustiano and Reineria Ibarra Fernandez. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ivonne Gonzalez Fernandez, daughters Yolanda Lanzillo (Vince) and Nidia Fernandez-Lee (Tommy ), brothers Fabio Fernandez (Pat) and Robustiano Fernandez (Pat), grandchildren Michael, Jaime, Gabriella, Nicole, Blaise, Truman and Evelyn and great-grandchild Aria.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Hampton Cove Funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimers Association.
