Mertice Phillips Miles – Obituary

Mertice Phillips Miles, 84, of Florence, Alabama passed away at North Alabama Medical Center on February 09, 2019. She was a member of Cross Point Church of Christ and a graduate of Mars Hill High School.

Mertice was born February 6, 1935 in Florence to the late Myrtle and Fred Phillips in Florence.  She was married 60 years to her late husband, Virgil B. Miles. They were high school sweethearts, who were voted most beautiful and handsome, and also, King and Queen of Valentine Court of Mars Hill Bible School their senior year. She worked as a board of registrar for Lauderdale County for several years. She was most famous for her hospitality and homemade biscuits. She had a passion for World Bible School and working in her flower bed.

The family will receive friends and family at Cross Point Church of Christ from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Myrtle Phillips; brother, Fred Phillips, Jr. (Buddy); sister, Betty Jean Burgess, and two infant daughters.

Survivors include her sons, Marlon Bennett (Sharla) and Phillip Benson (Lisa); grandchildren, Kayla Darby (Casey), Brennan Lee Miles (Jessica) and Jacob Owsley Miles; great-grandchildren, Jack Bennett and Case Tucker Darby, Owen Luke and Brynlee Kate Miles; brothers, Thomas and David Phillips.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brennan Miles, Casey Darby, Dave Lumpkin, Carl Collins, Dr. Jerry Freeman, and Larry McGee.

The family wishes to thank, Dr. Bob Mann, Renaissance of the Shoals, and the nurses on the 4th floor at North Alabama Medical Center who provided exceptional care and concern for Mertice.
