Sidney Hershel Hawkins – Obituary

 Sidney Hershel Hawkins of Selmer, TNSidney Hershel Hawkins was born November 8, 1930 in Spruce Pine, AL the son of the late John Sidney and Dora Lee Thompson Hawkins. He was united in marriage to Charlene Wilson on December 24, 1947.

Mr. Hawkins was employed with Brown Shoe Company in Selmer until 1957. He relocated to Illinois where he was employed with Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement he returned to Selmer.

Mr. Hawkins was ordained as a Deacon in 1975 and was an active member of Bethel Springs Community Church. He loved his church and church family. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, particularly the Chicago Cubs and White Sox. He also enjoyed basketball, and SEC football. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He looked forward to every family gathering. Mr. Hawkins departed this life on February 9, 2019 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 3 Months, 1 Day.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlene Hawkins of Selmer, TN; three children, Gail Schultz and husband Larry of Selmer, Lynn Hawkins and wife Sherry of Farmer City, IL, and Chris Hawkins of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Jeff Schultz and wife Rita of Medina, TN, Jason Schultz and wife Jean of Jackson, TN, Matthew Hawkins and wife Valerie of Normal, IL, Adam Hawkins and wife Heather of Bloomington, IL; six great grandchildren, Julianna Schultz, Jenna Schultz, Harper Hawkins, Will Hawkins, Jay Hawkins, Brooks Hawkins; two sisters, Martha Hallman and Barbara Vos; two brothers, James Hawkins and Kenneth Hawkins along with a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman Hawkins, George Hawkins, Ronnie Hawkins; three sisters, Fay Hawkins, Rachel Reeves, Jean Thompson.
