Phyllis Mae Zerbe (Fox), 81, was born April 30, 1937 in Joilet, Illinois to Chester and Evelyn Fox and went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2019 under the care of Amedisys Hospice Care and her loving family.

She grew up in Downers Grove/Westmont, Illinois area and attended North High School.  She also attended Charis Bible College of Chicago completing a Bible Training degree in 2007.   On August 21, 1954, she married Karl Zerbe and they lived and raised their family in Woodridge, Illinois.  They moved to Harvest, Alabama six years ago to enjoy a warmer retirement.

Phyllis loved sewing, gardening and cross stitching. Working in the Church and raising her family were always her number one priority.  She also had a lifelong love of words, making her a champion Boggle and Scrabble player.  She worked at Wiebolt’s, Wheaton Fabrics and Sam’s Club, but being a mother and homemaker were her proudest accomplishments. She was always a loving, humble, spiritual, thoughtful, kind and generous person, while keeping a good sense of humor even in the toughest of times.   Her distinctive and contagious laughter made her a joyous person to be around.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Donald Fox. She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Karl Zerbe; her brother, Daniel Fox (Grace) of Raleigh, North Carolina;  her son, Phil Zerbe (Diane) of Lombard, Illinois; her daughters, Mary Buchanan (Don) of Madison, Alabama, Patti Dicks (Vince) of Fargo, North Dakota and Susan Asare from Zephyr Hills, Florida; along with 12 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; and four nieces.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their loving care of Phyllis over the past months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Amedisys Hospice or American Cancer Society.

A private memorial service will be May 4th at 11:00 AM at the Zerbe’s home (29744 Crockett Run Lane NW, Harvest, Alabama).  Service will be followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments.
