Virginia Smith died Monday, February 4, 2019, at her home at Riverside Senior Living after an extended illness. She was born March 11, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, to Theodore and Voris Jordan Chapman. In 1943 she married Allison F.Smith and moved to Decatur where she spent the remainder of her life. She was a long-time member of Decatur First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s group and served on numerous committees. She volunteered at Decatur General (now Decatur Morgan) Hospital for several years. Virginia enjoyed playing bridge in a couple of bridge clubs and at the Senior Center. She hosted Thanksgiving dinners at her home and was pleased to present delicious meals and lovely table settings. All of Riverside Senior Living and her nearby family came together to honor her on her 90th birthday in 2013. She loved her family and was very fond of all of her caregivers at Riverside. They made her life full and comfortable. The family is also appreciative of the services of Hospice of the Valley in her final days.
