Robert Michael Curry passed away at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee on February 1st, 2019 after a brief illness. He was born in Pulaski on September 14th, 1949 and was 69 years old.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Edwin Curry and Johnnie Meadows Curry of Pulaski. He is survived by his wife, Pj Drayton-Curry. His four children Leslie (Dale) Bay, Robert Sims (Dee) Curry, John Meadows Curry, and Michael Gray Curry. Step daughter Templeton (Sam) Thompson. Brothers, Carroll Meadows (Cathy) Curry, Bernard Stone Curry, John Timothy Curry. Close cousins Steve (Judy) Eubank and Sara Ann (Harold) Bass. Many close friends and family members also survive.
Mike adored his two grandchildren, Mary Gordon Curry and Robert Capley Curry.
Mike graduated from Giles County High School, Martin Methodist College, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and the Graduate School of Banking at LSU. He was a Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Mike was a member of Pulaski First United Methodist Church where he served in numerous capacities over his life including Chairman of the Finance committee, Staff Parish Committee, Chairman of Church Council and Chairman of church Building Committee. Mike was currently a Sunday School teacher at FUMC at the time of his death. One of his current passions was the purchase of the old Sharp Motor Company property for the church and after the purchase, the vision to renovate. His hope was to one day have this facility be available for the youth, education, and community outreach.
Mike was President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of First National Bank in Pulaski until 1998 after a 25 year service to his community. He served as President of the Tennessee Bankers Association, and Chairman of the Board of Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. For the last fifteen years he has been employed by Attorney John McLemore in Nashville as a forensic financial analyst. Mike was a member of the Tennessee National Guard and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mike served on many Pulaski and Giles County boards over the years, including: Chairman of the Giles County Rescue Squad, Giles County Industrial Board, and member of the Pulaski Exchange Club.
In earlier years, he was very passionate about helping Pulaski and Giles County attract new business and industry to improve the quality of life for all Giles Countians.
His ability and desire to help people will be embedded in Middle Tennessee forever. He cherished the opportunity to help lead the effort towards bringing the Giles County Community together to improve racial equality issues.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 5th, 2019, from 3:00 until 7:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski.
The funeral service will be 11:00am Wednesday, February 6th, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Pulaski.
The burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to First United Methodist Church Building Fund in Pulaski are requested.
Pallbearers will be family members Robert Sims Curry, John Meadows Curry, Michael Gray Curry, Carroll Meadows Curry, Bernard Stoney Curry, Gene Morris, Dale Bay, Sam Gay, Steve Eubank, Bill Murrey, & Capley Curry.
