Shirley Russell Geers, Murfreesboro, TN and formerly of Fulton, 75, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimers. From her birth to the day of her death, she walked closely with the Lord sharing his love with all those she came into contact with, whether at her job at Warner or through kindness to strangers. Her smile could brighten up any room and her servant’s heart was always willing to go the extra mile to show God’s love to those around her. She made a mean waffle and loved her family more than anything in the world. She will be remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She was born in Fulton, MS on November 23, 1943 to the late Alvin and Annie (Stewart) Blaylock. On June 5, 1959 she married Bobby Wayne Russell who preceded her in death on December 26, 1980. On July 2, 1983 she married William “Bill” Geers, who survives. Shirley retired as a quality control supervisor for the Warneco Clothing Manufacturer which produced the White Stag line brand of clothing. She was a former member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and current member of the Third Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes her husband, Bill Geers, of Rolla and Murfreesboro; five children, Debbie Dozier (Douglas), Sharon Russell, Charlotte Wiygul, Cindy Sheffield (Matt Beasley), all of Fulton, and Julie Boehmer (Charlie) of Labadie, MO; two sisters, Shelby Davis, of Fulton, and Katherine Barrett, of Mooreville; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and dear friends.
A funeral service for Shirley Geers will be 12:00 Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she will lie in state from 11:00-12:00 Saturday. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 Friday, January 25 at Senter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Adams, Ken Adams, Bradley Sappington, Seth King, Steve Sheffield, Matt Beasley, Charlie Boehmer. Honorary Pallbearers are Matt Dozier, Rachel Sheffield, Trey Ausborn, Chance Ausborn, Greyson King, Eli Sappington, Cayden Wise. She was also preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Blaylock and her son-in-law, Tim Wiygul.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Shirley’s memory.
