F. D. Terry – Obituary

F. D. Terry, 87, died January 12, 2019 at NHC after bravely battling a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at Moulton Memory Garden on January 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Brother Roger Boswell. The family will have visitation for two hours prior to the service at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mr. Terry is survived by his four children, Michael F. Terry (Patti), Benjie Terry, Marketta Terry and Jennifer Terry; one brother, John Wayne Terry (Sandra); three grandchildren, Amanda Terry Graham (Josh), Micaela Terry Roberts (Jerome), and Kelsey Terry; and great-grandchildren, Caden, Layna and Kirby Roberts, and Abigail Graham to cherish his memory. He is also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Helen Lorene Lipscomb Terry; his parents, Gilbert Terry, Sr. and Bessie Mae Terry; two brothers, Grady Bert Terry and Gilbert Terry, Jr.; and a sister, Shirley Peacock.

A 1951 graduate of Hazlewood High School, Mr. Terry served in the United States Air Force in the early 1950’s where he was stationed in England.

Mr. Terry was retired from Reynolds Metals Company and was a cattle farmer in the Loosier Community. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, his farm, Atlanta Braves baseball, and Alabama football. A special joy of his was cheering for all four of his children as they competed in Hatton High School athletics.

A child of the Depression, Mr. Terry taught his family the value of a dollar, the necessity for hard work, and the importance of providing for family, all through his self-sacrificial example.

Pallbearers will be Tony Gargis, John Wayne Martin, Kenny Hutto, Robbie Campbell, Tim Pierce, Brian Jeffreys, Alan Hammond, Ben Suski and Shane Harrison.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the building fund of The Bridge, an SBC Christian Fellowship.
