James Edward Sylvester, Sr was born June 28, 1943 at home in Limestone County, Alabama. He passed away in his home in Toney, AL. January 10, 2019. James was owner of Sylvester Masonry until he retired in 1999. He was a supporter of Blue Water Springs YMCA sports, enjoyed coaching little league football and baseball, supporting area schools athletic programs, the Alabama Sheriff Boys Ranch and Kings Ranch. He enjoyed spending time with his family and supporting various sport events his children and grandchildren were involved in. He thoroughly enjoyed breeding and showing game cocks. He was well known in that industry and considered to have some of the best bloodlines in the world.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy and their 6 children; Theresea Quillin of Gurley, James, Jr (Rubi) of Hazel Green, Rachel (James) Davis of Clarksville, TN, Tammy Stender of Madison, Michael (Lindsay) of Toney, Wesley (Shannon) of Athens; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Tommy (Linda), Donald (Terry); 3 sisters, Jolene Hallman, Dottie (Jerry) Edwards and Juanita (Ronnie) Baldwin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father Marvin Curtis Sylvester and Mother, Catherine Louise (White) Sylvester; brothers, Marvin (Jack), John (Buddy), Gary, Woodrow and Jerry and one sister Dorthea who died at birth.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 at Spry Funeral Home. Funeral will be Monday, January 14, 2019 2:00 at Spry Funeral Home with interment to follow at Rice Cemetery on Winchester Road in New Market, AL.
