Charlotte Ann Johns Lawson, age 88 of Florence, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019.  Visitation will be Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 12 Noon – 2 p.m.  Services will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Henry Prater officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

She was born on July 21, 1930, and was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Ray Lawson, her parents Rob and Clara Johns, her siblings Laura Sadler, Marie Lawson, Robert Earl Johns, Luella Ratliff, and Clara Frances McAlexander, and her son-in-law Mitch Faulkner.

She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Thompson (Dwayne), Annette Faulkner, Samantha Thigpen (Gene), sons Mike Lawson (Karen) and Ken Lawson, and grandchildren Alfie, Eli, Ben, Joe, Grace, Josh, Andrew, Luuk, and Sam.

Charlotte graduated from Malesus High School in 1948, completed clerical courses at West Tennessee Business College, and worked in the accounting department at GMAC in Jackson, TN until her oldest child was born in 1950.  She and Ray moved their family to Florence, AL in 1958, where she joined Edgemont United Methodist Church and spent many years volunteering in the Mothers Morning Out program there.

In addition to raising their five children, Charlotte and Ray delivered Meals on Wheels, actively participated as members of the board of the Old Railroad Bridge Company, and traveled together on their “western trip” to the Grand Canyon and also to Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Tennessee pursuing their family roots.  Charlotte also enjoyed serving as an election official at the Forest Hills School poll for a number of years.  She was very interested in her community, and cared for her many friends and neighbors, both in Florence and in her native Tennessee.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are her nephew Mickey Sadler and the members of the Friendship class at Edgemont.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be made to the Old Railroad Bridge Company, Sheffield, AL or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
