James Hughes – Obituary

James Hughes, 80, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at The Oxford Veterans Home. He was born June 12, 1938 to the late Verlon Lamar Hughes and the late Ruby Benson Hughes. He loved fishing and gardening. He lived in California for 34 years where he fished in bass tournaments, winning many trophies. He completed basic training in Texas and served four years in the US Air Force stationed at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, California. He started working for AT&T in California the day after he completed his four years in the Air Force. AT&T became Pacific Bell and he retired from the telephone company in California after 30 years of service. After retirement, the Hughes’ moved back moved back to Mississippi and built a house on their property. Jim began gardening and sold vegetables at businesses and the Farmers Market. He loved to see the garden grow and enjoyed meeting the people he sold the vegetables to. He made sure that what he sold was fresh and good quality.

A memorial service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday January 12, 2019 and the family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 at Senter Funeral Home with Ministers Rodney Livingston and Brady Ramey officiating.

Survivors include his Wife of 54 years, Yvonne Hughes of Fulton; Sister, Ann Pate, Sister, Lynne Gaines, Sister, Erma (Steve) Izard

Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dan Pate
