Leslie James Alkenburg – Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Leslie James Alkenburg, age 86, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 11 AM on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Alkenburg was born on February 25, 1936 in Canandaigua, NY to the late James Henry and Eugenia Melanie Ponce Alkenburg. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fayetteville Elks Lodge and worked as a logistics specialist for the United States Army Missile Command for 37 years. Mr. Alkenburg passed away on January 4, 2019 at Lincoln Medical Center.

Survivors include his children, Susan (Pat) Miller, John Charles (Debbie Milz) Alkenburg, and James Henry Alkenburg; grandchildren, Rebecca Alkenburg (Matt) Cofer, Hanna Alkenburg (Matt) Gossett, Jessica Alkenburg (Michael) Cates, and Jackson (Tara) Williams; eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Lincoln Alkenburg; son, Don Alkenburg; and Theresa Tharp.

Visitation with the family will be held at 4 PM until 7 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude PL. Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Alkenburg.
