Robert “Bob” King, of Memphis, Tennessee, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather met his Savior on December 26, 2018. Bob was born in Weston, West Virginia on May 13, 1931 to William and Martha King. He grew up in Weston, and graduated from Weston High School in 1949 where he served as president of his senior class. He attended both The University of West Virginia and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree as a Certified Dental Technician in 1953.
Bob married Ilene Dees on January 30, 1955 in Tallahassee, Florida. Bob soon joined the United States Air Force and spent two years at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida and two years stationed at Bushey Park, Middlesex, England. During this time in England, Bob and Ilene traveled extensively throughout Europe.
After finishing his commitment in the Air Force, Bob and Ilene moved back to Decatur, Alabama where Bob opened a Dental Laboratory.
On January 13, 1961, Bob and Ilene had their one and only child, Kimberly Dawn King. In 1962 the family moved to Houston, Texas where Bob was employed by J.F. Jelenko and Company. He worked as a sales representative for 27 years winning the most coveted J-Man sales award twice in 1966 and 1982. The family were members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church until 1992.
In retirement, Bob and Ilene moved back to Decatur, Alabama and joined St. John’s Episcopal Church. Bob and Ilene then moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 2014 to be closer to their daughter and family. Bob loved sports and enjoyed various hobbies such as tennis, golf, bowling, bridge and collecting coins and stamps.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene Dees King; his brother, William King II of Weston, West Virginia; as well as his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly King Brothers and husband, Scot Brothers of Germantown, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Kristina Nicole Brothers of Nashville, Tennessee and Benjamin King Brothers of Germantown, Tennessee; a nephew, William King III of Weston, West Virginia; two nieces, Martha Talbott of Kingsport, Tennessee and Elaine Talbott of Buckhannon, West Virginia.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all of the caregivers at The Heritage at Forest Hill and to all of the caregivers at Allen Morgan Health Center at Trezevant Manor.
A veterans service will take place Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur. Donations can be made in Bob’s memory to the Scottish Rite Shriner’s Institute or the charity of the donor’s choice.
