Itawamba County hostage standoff nearing 24 hours

Golden, MS-On Saturday, December 29 a 911 call was received for a disturbance call to a house in Golden at around 1:00 PM.  Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson says law enforcement officials are in a standoff with an armed man who has reportedly taken a 10-year-old girl hostage.   The suspect and hostage are barricaded inside a home on Alice Hall Road a couple of miles west of Red Bay, Alabama.
Sheriff Chris Dickinson says they initially received a report of two men holding a 10-year-old girl inside a home on Alice Hall Road in the northern part of the county.  According to the sheriff officers later found out only one person is holding the girl hostage.  It’s not clear what the status is of the other man.
According to authorities contact was made by Itawamba County Sheriff’s deputies with a made inside the residence at approximately 6:30PM on Saturday.  Contact between law enforcement officials and the suspect has been ongoing,  through the day on Saturday.  Officials state they have made contact with he man and the girl seems to be OK for the time being.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT team has also been called to the scene.
 There is still no word as to why the hostage situation occurred as officers are still working nearly 24 hours later to peacefully resolve this hostage standoff in northeast Itawamba County.
