Emmer Gean Long – Obituary

Emmer Gean Long, 90, died Friday, December 28, 2018, at her son’s home. She was born June 16, 1928, in Shannon to Albert Lonzo and Mellie Esther Mason Hall. She worked for Delta Trousers for 38 years then worked several years in the cafeteria at Okolona High School and Shannon High School. She was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church but had attended Carnation Baptist Church and Family Baptist Church in years past. Throughout her life, she had taught Sunday School on all levels and had a Sunday School Class at Union Chapel named after her, the Emmer Gean Prayer Band. She was a master seamstress and enjoyed quilting and embroidering. She loved watching the New York Yankees and reading her bible daily.

Services will be 11 AM Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Owen, Steven Newell and Brother Rick Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

She is survived by her children, John William Long (Heather) of Axtell, TX, Margaret Tackett (Larry) of Troy, Joey Long (Barbara Kay) of Shannon, Dennis Long (Jeanie) of Algomia, Andy Long (Cindy) of Shannon and Rodney Long of Troy; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rubel Long and 8 brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Ryne Long, Kody Long, Tim Tackett, Levi Tackett, Cooper Tackett, Eric Plunkett and Carl Long.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 Monday.
