Myrtie Ray – Obituary

Myrtie Ray died on Thursday, December 27th, 2018.  She was 85 years old and a resident of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

 

Visitation will be 11 am to 1 pm on December 31st at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church. The funeral will follow immediately with Dr. William Rushing officiating. The burial will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens with Dr. William Rushing officiating.

 

Myrtie was born on May 7th, 1933 in Hayleyville, Alabama to Roy F. Wilemon and Mittie H. Wilemon. She was a graduate of Haleyville High School. She attended Howard College (Samford University) where she met the love of her life, Clyde Ray, Jr. She and Clyde were married for 62 years.

 

Myrtie loved her church and community. She was an active member of Woodward Avenue Baptist Church for over 55 years. She served as a Sunday School teacher for most of these years. Myrtie was a licensed nursing home administrator. She opened and operated Muscle Shoals Nursing Home from 1974 through 1989. She was so very proud of her family. She was known to her grandchildren as “Pop Pop.”

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Ray, Jr; parents, Roy and Mittie Wilemon; brother, Amos Wilemon; and sister, Louise Dixon.

 

She is survived by her two sons, Tim Ray (Susie) and Mark Ray (Melody); five grandchildren, Timmy (Maggie Bea), Benjamin (Chelsea), Ashton (Tyler), Noah, and Ethan, and one great-grandchild, Maddux.

 

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Ray, Timmy Ray, Tyler Sizemore, Bob Little, Ricky Williams, and Buddy Johnsey.

 

Honorary pallbearers are Noah Ray, Ethan Ray, Kelly Smith, Dr. James Ashmore, and Don Lenz.

 

The family extends special thanks to Jan Weeks and staff of the Florence Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Colbert Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
