Jimmie Ray Slaton, Sr.74, of Rogersville went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 18th, 1944 in Anderson, AL to Martha Helen and Edison Slaton. He graduated from Anderson Jr. High School and attended Lauderdale County High School.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 20th, 2018 from 11 – 1 at Rogersville Funeral Home with funeral service following in the chapel with Andy Corbett officiating. Burial will be in Barnett Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Jimmie was a saved and baptized member of the Baptist faith, a member of the Anderson Masonic Lodge and the Cabana Shrine Temple of Huntsville. He was a retired construction general superintendent and later in life started his Hickory Tool Handle business allowing him to provide goods and services to people while enjoying life and helping others. He was well known as “the handleman”.
Mr. Slaton was preceded in death by his father, William Edison Slaton; brothers, Ronnie and Barry Slaton; great granddaughter, Kennedy Ellett; brother-in-law, Louis Karling, Sr.; grandparents, John & Mattie Forsythe and Tommy & Maud Slaton. He is survived by his children, Donna (Gordon) Cox, Lena (Kevin) Ard; sons, John (Karen) Slaton and Jimmie “Jaye” Slaton, Jr.; beloved mother, Martha Helen Kelley; girlfriend, Jean Gillis; sister, Janice Karling; brother, Scotty Slaton; grandchildren, Trey, Ashley, Erica and Alecia; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jimmie was a loving and caring Dad to his children. To his grandchildren he was their devoted and respected Papaw Jimmie. He was a good friend to those who knew him and helped so many people who need a hand or a second chance in life.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, nurse – Meloni Solberg and Michelle Cooper, Dr. Sean Rhuland, Dr. Edsel Holden II and Dr. Kenneth Rose.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriner Children’s Hospital.
