F 12.16.18 Channia Edwards.jpgChannia Winston Edwards was born in Meridian, MS on October 2, 1922, and departed this life at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on December 11, 2018.

Channia was born to the union of John and Channia Winston in Meridian, Mississippi. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the 31st Avenue Baptist Church in Meridian. Channia attended Wechsler and T.J. Harris High School in Meridian and obtained her B.S. from Jackson State University. She shared a love of the “arts” and education with her siblings and spent many years working in this area. She married Alva C. Edwards and called Fort Wayne, Indiana home until he departed this life. She moved to Tuscumbia, AL to be closer to family. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Channia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Channia Winston; brother, Daniel Winston; husband, Alva Edwards; brother, James Winston; and brother, John Winston.

She leaves her sister-in-laws Alice Winston and Annie Winston; niece, Danette Winston-Williams; nephew, Robert Winston; nephew, John Winston (Jacqueline); niece, Cassandra Winston-Griffin; great niece, Alexis Griffin; and a host of other relatives. Channia also leaves her devoted assistants Mr. Jimmy Thompson and Ms. Sandra Malone.

The family would like to thank the staff of Helen Keller Memorial Hospital, Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for services rendered.

Funeral service for Mrs. Edwards will be Monday, December 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Thompson and Son Funeral Home Chapel, Tuscumbia, AL with Rev. Otis Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The public viewing will be Sunday, 1 p.m. to 8:00pm.
